　　6. Now that a tunnel has been built through the mountains, the Pass is less dangerous, but each year, the dogs are still sent out into the snow whenever a traveller is in difficulty.

　　如今由于在山里开挖了隧道，翻越山口已不那么危险了。但每年还要派狗到雪地里帮助那些遇到困难的旅游者。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:这是一个由now that引导的原因状语从句。But形成转折。

　　语言点2:Now that用作连词，引导原因状语从句。意思是“由于，既然”。

　　Now that you want to go to America for study,you may as well try TOFEL or SAT. 既然你想到美国留学，那么不妨考托福或者SAT吧。

　　语言点3:重要写作短语总结

　　 (1）:be in difficulty 陷入困境
　　（2）:be in luxury 生活奢华
　　（3）:be in debt 负债累累
　　（4）:be in misery 生活悲惨

　　7. Despite the new tunnel, there are still a few people who rashly attempt to cross the Pass on foot.
尽管修了隧道，但仍有一些人想冒险涉足跨越圣伯纳德山口。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:despite引导让步状语。Who引导定语从句，修饰a few people。

　　语言点2:重要写作短语总结:

　　（1）:attempt to do sth. 试图做某事
（2）:strive to do sth. 努力做某事
（3）:endeavour to do sth. 尽力做某事
（4）:spare no efforts to do sth. 不遗余力地做某事

　　8. During the summer months, the monastery is very busy, for it is visited by thousands of people who cross the Pass in cars.

　　夏天的几个月里，修道院十分忙碌，因为有成千上万的人驾车通过山口，顺道来修道院参观。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:during引导时间状语。For引导原因状语从句。Is visited by为典型的被动语态。Who引导定语从句，修饰thousands of people。In cars为方式状语，说明人们用何种方式穿越山口。

　　语言点2:thousands of指“成千上万的”。

　　9. As there are so many people about, the dogs have to be kept in a special enclosure.

　　由于来人太多，狗被关在专门的围栏里。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:本句中用as而没有用上句中的for引导原因状语从句，是为了避免重复用词。主句中的be kept in为被动语态，说明狗被关在什么地方。

　　语言点2:句中的about不表示“大约”，而表示“在…周围，在…附近”，可用around代替。

　　10. In winter, however, life at the monastery is quite different.

　　然而到了冬天，修道院里的生活则是另一番景象。

　　语言点:句子结构分析:at the monastery是介词短语，作后置定语，修饰life，说明是什么地方的生活。

　　11. The temperature drops to-30 and very few people attempt to cross the Pass.

　　气温下降到零下30度，试图翻越山口的人寥寥无几。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:very few表示“几乎没有”。And并列连接两个有逻辑关系的简单句。

　　The temperature of summer in Wuhan jumps to 40C and very few people attempt to go out.
武汉夏天的温度达到40摄氏度，几乎没人出门。
