　　Lesson 66: Sweet as honey

　　新概念英语2课文内容：

　　In 1963 a Lancaster bomber crashed on Wallis Island, a remote place in the South Pacific, a long way west of Samoa. The plane wasn't too badly damaged, but over the years, the crash was forgotten and the wreck remained undisturbed. Then in 1989, twenty-six years after the crash, the plane was accidentally rediscovered in an aerial survey of the island. By this time, a Lancaster bomber in reasonable condition was rare and worth rescuing. The French authorities had the plane packaged and moved in parts back to France. Now a group of enthusiasts are going to have the plane restored. It has four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, but the group will need to have only three of them rebuilt. Imagine their surprise and delight when they broke open the packing cases and found that the fourth engine was sweet as honey — still in perfect condition. A colony of bees had turned the engine into a hive and it was totally preserved in beeswax!

　　1963年，一架兰开斯特轰炸机在沃立利斯岛坠毁了，那是南太平洋中一个很偏僻的小岛，位于萨摩亚群岛以西，距离群岛还有很长一段距离。

　　语言点 crash on somewhere在某地上空坠毁

　　真题测试 测试语言点：同位语从句

　　Some researchers believe that there is no doubt( )a cure for AIDS will be found.

　　答案：选B

　　分析：从题意中不难看出a cure for AIDS will be found应该是同位语从句。根据doubt 的习惯用法：肯定句中doubt后面的从句常用whether/if引导;no / not doubt后 面的从句常用that引导，所以选B。

　　翻译：一些研究者认为，毫无疑问将会找到治疗艾滋病的方法。

　　2. The plane wasn't too badly damaged，but over the years, the crash was forgotten and the wreck rranained undisturbed.

　　飞机的损坏程度并不严重，但是多年来，这起飞机失事已被遗忘，飞机的残骸也没受到 破坏。

　　语言点1 wasn't too badly damaged损坏并不严重

　　语言点2 over“在……期间”相当于during，如：over the years这些年来;over the Christmas在圣诞期间。

　　3、Then in 1989, twenty-six years after the crash, the plane was accidentally rediscovered in an aerial survey of the island.

　　于是，到了 1989年，飞机失事26年后，在对小岛的一次舵空侦察中那架飞机被意外地发现了。

　　语言点1 survey调查,一定要跟数据有关系。

　　语言点2 “re-”表示又，再，如：review复习;reread再读;rewrite改写;retell复述

　　4、By this time, a Lancaster bomber in reasonable condition was rare and worth rescuing.

　　到了那个时候，一架保存完好的兰开斯特轰炸机实属罕见，所以值得抢救。

　　语言点 in reasonable condition介词短语作后置定语修饰bomber。

　　5、The French authorities had the plane packaged and moved in parts back to France.

　　法国政府请人把飞机包装起来，然后一部分一部分地运回了法国。

　　语言点 had the plane packaged请人将飞机包装起来，并非自己亲自去做。
