Lesson 24 It could be worse

　　课文内容：

　　I entered the hotel manager's office and sat down. I had just lost $50 and I felt very upset.‘I left the money in my room,' I said,‘and it's not there now.' The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing. ‘Everyone's losing money these days,' he said. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. Itcontained $50. ‘I found this outside this gentleman's room,' she said. ‘Well,' I said to the manager, ‘there is still some honesty in this world!'

　　本文未出现新语法点，每个句子都是对之前中每篇课文的关键句型进行复习。

　　逐句精讲新概念英语2：

　　1、I entered the hotel manager’s office and sat down.

　　我走进饭店经理的办公室，坐了下来。

　　语言点1 manager’s office经理办公室，关于名词所有格，请参考Lesson 13课文讲解。

　　语言点2 名词hotel作定语，名词作定语举例：hat shop帽子店;barber shop理发店;general shop 杂货店;show shop展销店;grocery store杂货店;book store书店;drug store 药房;dry store干货仓库

　　2、I had just lost ￡50 and I felt very upset.

　　我刚刚丟了50英镑，感到非常烦恼。

　　语言点 just为时间副词，常用于完成时，起强调作用(参考Lesson2课文分析)。

　　3、‘I left the money in my room,’ I said, ‘and it’s not there now.’

　　“我把钱放在房间里，”我说，“现在却不见了。”

　　语言点 此句为典型的直接引语，请参考Lesson 15课文分析。

　　变为间接引语：I told the manager that I had left the money in my room and it was not there then .

　　4、The manager was sympathetic，but he could do nothing.

　　经理深表同情，但是他也无能为力。

　　语言点1 but—词用于并列句，请参考Lesson 8课文讲解。

　　语言点2 标题：It could be worse 还能比这更坏—不幸中的万幸

　　It could not be worse.

　　不能比这更坏了。这就是最坏的。

　　It could be better.

　　还能比这更好。—这不是最好的。

　　It could not be better.

　　不能比这更好了。—这就是最好的。

　　5、‘Everyone’s losing money these days,’he said.

　　“现在大家都在丢钱，”他说。

　　语言点 everyone作主语谓语动词用第三人称单数，请参考Lesson 8课文讲解

　　6、He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door.

　　他开始抱怨起这个邪恶的世道来，却被一阵敲门声打断了。

　　语言点 was interrupted —般过去时的被动语态，请参考Lesson 10课文分析。

　　7、A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk.

　　一个女孩走了进来，把一个信封放在他的桌子上。

　　语言点 put sth. on somewhere 把某物放在某地方，请参考《新概念英语》 2 Lesson 6课后关键句型。

　　8、It contained ￡50.‘I found this outside this gentleman’s room,’ she said.

　　里面装着50英镑。“这是我在这位先生的房门外捡到的，”她说。

　　语言点 参考本课对单词contain的讲解。envelope是封口的，故用contain。

　　9、‘Well,’ I said to the manager, ‘there is still some honesty in this world! ’

　　“不过，”我对那位经理说，“这个世界上还是有诚实可言的!”

　　语言点 关于there be句型，请参考《新概念英语》2 Lesson 23课后关键句型分析及练习。
