  1.age n. 年纪,年龄 v. 变老

  for age 很久,很长时间(for a long time)

  例句:I haven't seen you for ages, but I hear you are going to study abroad soon.

  我已经很久没见到你了,但我听说你不久要出国学习。

  2.all 全部的,所有的 adv. 完全地,全部地

  after all 毕竟,终究,到底,终于

  1.A:Mary won't be coming to work tomorrow. She's finally going to the photography exhibit.

  A:玛丽明天不会来上班,她最后还是要去看那个摄影展了。

  B:Oh, so she managed to get tickets after all.

  B:噢,这么说她终于还是搞到票了。

  2.A:I talked to Philip today and he said he'd be coming to the party.

  A:今天我和菲利普谈过了,他说要来参加晚会的。

  B:Oh, so he can come after all.

  B:噢,那么说他到底还是能来了。

  3.A:I've just seen the X-rays and your teeth look just fine.

  3.decline v. 1.拒绝(接受某物);谢绝2.下降3.衰落4.倾斜;垂头 n. 1.下降,下倾,下垂2.衰落3.斜面,倾斜4.消耗病(如肺病)

  例句:The major reason for the decline of Asian elephants is the harm to their forests.

  亚洲象数目减少的主要原因就是对它们所在森林的破坏。

  4.die vi.死,死亡;枯萎;消失

  die out 消失;灭绝(disappear; become extinct)

  例句:1.Some languages are dying out because the groups who speak them are declining or because the speakers have adopted another.

  有些语言正在消失,这是因为讲这种语言的人群正在衰减或因为人们已经采用了另外一种语言。

  2.With the development of modern industry, many of the traditional crafts have died out.

  随着现代工业的发展,很多传统工艺已失传了。

  3.The dinosaurs have died out.

  恐龙已经灭绝了。

  5.even adj.平均的,相等的;一致 adv.更为,及时;纵然 v. 使平均,使平坦

  get even with 复仇,报仇(to have one's revenge, to revenge on)

  例句;Tony has spread a lot of rumours about me. I'll get even with him as soon as possible.

  托尼散布了很多关于我的谣言,我将尽快报复他一下。

  6.few adj.(前面有不定冠词)有些,几个;(前面没有不定冠词)没有几个,极少

  few and far between 稀少,极少见

  A:Steve is really a terrific guy.

  A:史蒂夫真是一个不错的哥们。

  B:He sure is. Friends like him are few and far between.

  B:的确是的,像他那样的朋友实在是少见。

  7.least pron.最小,最少

  at least 至少(the lowest estimate)

  例句:There has been a serious accident on the M6 motorway in Lancashire, in which at least six people have lost their lives.

  茌兰开夏郡的6号高速公路上发生了一起严重的交通事故,至少有6人丧生。

  8.limit vt.限制,限定 n. 界线,限度;极限

  exceed the speed limit 超速,超过限速(speeding; driving at a higher speed than required)

  例句:The policeman told him that he had been exceeding the speed limit and asked to see his documents.

  警察说他一直在超速驾驶并要求看他的证件。

  9.run out (of) 用光,用完(use up, exhaust, fall short of)

  例句:l.If she ran out of supplies in the evening, I was obliged to go out and look for a shop where I could get some more.

  如果她晚上用完了所有补给品,我就不得不出去找家商店再去买一些。

  2.Captain Ace was piloting a jet plane that had run out of fuel.

  王牌上尉正在驾驶着一架喷气飞机,飞机的燃料已经用完了。

  3.could you lend me a pen? Mine has run out of ink.

  你能借我一支钢笔吗?我的钢笔没水了。

  10.run-down adj. 破旧的

  run down 很累(同义习语有worn out, out of steam, dog tired, tired out。顺便掌握 beat, bushed, pooped这几个表达累的极口语化的说法)

  例句:Bob's looking run down lately.

  鲍勃最近看上去很累。

  11.sboe n. 鞋

  gym shoes 运动鞋(同义习语:running shoes, jogging shoes)

  12.wear out 磨损:磨坏,磨穿

  A:Did you dance very much at the party last night?

  A:昨晚你舞跳得多吗?

  B:Only until my shoes wore out.

  B:一直把我的鞋磨穿
