　　《新概念英语》第二册第27课 A wet night 雨夜

　　【课文】

　　First listen and then answer the question.

　　听录音，然后回答以下问题。

　　What happened to the boys in the night?

　　Late in the afternoon, the boys put up their tent in the middle of a field. As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire. They were all hungry and the food smelled good. After a wonderful meal, they told stories and sang songs by the campfire. But some time later it began to rain. The boys felt tired so they put out the fire and crept into their tent. Their sleeping bags were warm and comfortable, so they all slept soundly. In the middle of the night, two boys woke up and began shouting. The tent was full of water! They all leapt out of their sleeping bags and hurried outside. It was raining heavily and they found that a stream had formed in the field. The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent!

　　傍晚时分，孩子们在田野中央搭起了帐篷。这件事刚刚做完，他们就在篝火上烧起了饭。他们全都饿了，饭菜散发出阵阵香味。他们美美地吃了一顿饭后，就围在营火旁讲起了故事，唱起了歌。但过了一阵子。天下起雨来，孩子们觉得累了，于是他们扑灭了篝火，钻进了帐篷。睡袋既暖和又舒服，所以，他们都睡得很香。午夜前后，有两个孩子醒了，大声叫了起来。原来帐篷里到处都是水!他们全都跳出睡袋，跑到外面。雨下得很大，他们发现地上已经形成了一条小溪。那小溪弯弯曲曲穿过田野，然后正好从他们的帐篷底下流过去。

　　相关短语：put up with 忍受, 容忍 put trust in 对 ... 信任 put out 熄灭 put to use 投入使用, 利用

　　We have to put up with her bad temper.

　　我们只得忍受她的坏脾气。

　　I don't trust those slick salesmen.

　　我不信任那些油嘴滑舌的推销员。

　　2 As soon as this was done, they cooked a meal over an open fire.

　　这件事刚刚做完，他们就在篝火上烧起了饭。

　　本句中，as soon as表示“一……就”，形容前后两个动作连接之紧密。同样表达类似词意的词还有：immediately

　　我一听到这个消息,马上就来了。

　　3 After a wonderful meal, they told stories and sang songs by the campfire.

　　本句中by做介词使用，表示在……附近，靠近，通过。

　　The house by the lake is a restaurant.

　　湖边的那座房子是家饭店。

　　与by搭配的其它词组包括：by means of 经由，用……方法 by far 截止到目前 by accident/by chance 偶然

　　Thoughts are expressed by means of words.

　　思想是用(通过)言语表达的。

　　I met her quite by chance.

　　The TV tower is by far the largest construction of our country.

　　电视塔明显地是我国最大的建筑。

　　4 creep vi. 蹑手蹑脚地走, 爬, 渐渐出现, 蔓延, 毛骨悚然 n. 卑鄙小人, 爬, 徐行, 蠕动

　　We take off our shoes and creep cautiously along the passage.

　　我们脱掉了鞋，在走廊中蹑手蹑脚地往前走。

　　与creep搭配的其它短语有：give sb the creeps 使某人毛骨悚然 creep up on 爬向，慢慢爬来

　　The cat crept up on the bird and pounced.

　　那只猫悄悄地爬近那只鸟，接著便猛扑过去。

　　词义辨析

　　creep, climb, crawl

　　这些动词都有“爬”之意。

　　creep: 多指人或四足动物匍匐爬行，尤指偷偷地或不出声地缓慢向前爬行。也指植物的蔓延生长等。

　　climb: 通常指用手或足爬上或爬下，也指飞机、日、月的上升，还可用作比喻。

　　crawl: 指人或动物以身躯贴着地面缓慢地移动。

　　5 The stream wound its way across the field and then flowed right under their tent!那小溪弯弯曲曲穿过田野，然后正好从他们的帐篷底下流过去。

　　wind在句中做动词用，表示蜿蜒，过去式和过去分词都是wound;做名词时表示微风。

　　与wind经常搭配的词组有：wind up 卷起，结束，以……告终 wind down 放松, 慢下来, 接近尾声

　　We went to the pub to wind down.

　　我们去酒店放松一下。

　　The speaker will soon wind up his speech.

　　演说者就要结束他的讲话了。
