　　新概念一直被视为英语学习的经典教材，为了让同学们能够更加全面完善的学习新概念英语，新东方在线英语组老师将帮助同学们一起总结知识点。

　　Most funny stories are based on comic situations. Inspite of national differences, certain funnysituations have a universal appeal. No matter where you live, you would find it difficult not tolaugh at, say, Charlie Chaplin's early films. However, a new type of humour, which stems largelyfrom the U.S., has recently come into fashion. It is called ‘sick humour. Comedians base theirjokes on tragics situations like violent death or serious accidents. Many people find this sort ofjoke distasteful.

　　16. Though the doctor did his best, the patient's recovery was slow.

　　尽管医生竭力医治，但病人恢复缓慢。

　　语言点:句子结构分析:though引导让步状语从句，后半句中一般会出现“令人遗憾的事情”。

　　17. On Christmas Day, the man still had his right leg in plaster.

　　圣诞节那天，他的右腿还上着石膏。

　　语言点:have one's leg in plaster的意思是“腿上打着石膏”。注意不可直译为“腿在石膏里”。

　　18. He spent a miserable day in bed thinking of all the fun he was missing.

　　他在床上郁郁不乐地躺了一天，想着他错过的种种欢乐。

　　语言点:句子结构分析:对于本句中的thinking of all the fun he was missing有两种不同的解释:(1)sspend some time on doing sth.结构，意思是“花费时间做某事”(2)现在分词thinking引导补充状语，补充说明“躺在床上所想的事情”。Fun指“令人欢乐的事情或时光”，在本句中后接省去了引导词that的定语从句he was missing。
