　　新概念一直被视为英语学习的经典教材，为了让同学们能够更加全面完善的学习新概念英语，新东方在线英语组老师将帮助同学们一起总结知识点。

　　The lorry was loadedwith empty beer bottles and hundreds of them slid off the back of the vehicle and on to theroad. This led to yet another angry argument. Meanwhile, the traffic piled up behind. It took thepolice nearly an hour to get the traffic on the move again. In the meantime, the lorry driver hadto sweep up hundreds of broken bottles. Only two stray dogs benefited from all thisconfusion, for they greedily devoured what was left of the cake. It was just one of those days!

　　7. While you are on the phone, the baby pulls the tablecloth off the table smashing halfyour best crockery and cutting himself in the process.

　　就在你接电话时，孩子把桌布从桌子上扯下来，将家中最好的陶瓷餐具半数摔碎，同时也弄伤了他自己。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:off是介词，意思是“离开”。两个现在分词短语smashing…和cutting…作结果状语。In the process指的是“在smashing…crockery的过程中”。

　　语言点2:be on the phone不可直接译作“在电话上”，而应引申为“在接电话”。

　　8. You hang up hurriedly and attend to baby, crockery,etc.

　　你急急忙忙挂上电话，赶去照看孩子和餐具。

　　语言点1:句子结构分析:and在本句中的作用表面上看是并列连接前后两个分句，实际上是连接由一个主语发出的一前一后两个连接十分紧密的动作。

　　语言点2:attend to sb.的意思是“照看某人”。

　　9. Meanwhile, the meal gets burnt.

　　这时，饭又烧糊了。

　　语言点:meanwhile的意思是“与此同时”，强调动作同时发生。在get burnt这个短语里，get是系动词，burnt是过去分词，作表语。
