剑桥KET语法：a 和 an 的用法

　　不定冠词 a 和 an 一般只用于可数名词单数，表示泛指，即不专指某一具体的、 特定的个体事物，而只表示某个笼统的概念。a 放在以辅音发音开头的名词前，an 放 在以元音发音开头的名词前。

　　1、使 用 a 或 an 的一般规则

　　a 和 an 都用在单数可数名词之前，当单个字母或单词发音以元音开头时用 an, 其他情况用a。如：

　　a museum 一个博物馆 a table —张桌子

　　a cup 一个杯子 an apple 一个苹果

　　an ice cream 一个冰激凌 an X一个X

　　2、使用 a 或 an 的一些特殊情况

　　(1)以元音字母开头，读音却以辅音开头的单词

　　这类单词有： university 、useful 、usual 、united 、European 、one-eyed 、one-way 等，这类单词前面要用a。 比较：

　　a university 一所大学 an uncle 一位叔叔

　　(2)以辅音字母开头，读音却以元音开头的单词

　　部分以h 开头的单词， h 不发音，单词开头发元音，要用an 。这类单词有hour、honest、honor等。比较：

　　an hour 一个小时 a house 一座房子

　　(3)读音以元音开头的字母

　　在26个英文字母中，有12个字母的读音是以元音开头的，前面用an, 其余字母的 读音都是以辅音开头的，前面要用a。这12个以元音发音开头的字母是：Aa、Ee、Ii、Oo、Ff、Hh、Ll、Mm、Nn、Rr、Ss、Xx。
