　　1.accompany vt.陪伴，陪同;为…伴奏

　　accompany sb. while sb. 为某人伴奏(play piano or violin for a singer)

　　A:Can you accompany while I sing?

　　A:我唱歌的时候你能替我伴奏吗?

　　B:I don't play Well, but I will give it a try.

　　B:我弹得不太好，但我要试一试。

　　2.bone n. 骨头，骨骼

　　chilled to the bone 全身都冻僵了(of a person) very cold; cold in every part of

　　one's body)

　　A:What's the matter? You look worn out.

　　A:怎么回事?你看起来非常疲惫。

　　B:I walked two hours through the snow and was chilled to the bone.

　　B:我在风雪中走了两个钟头，全身都冻僵了。

　　3.dot n. 小圆点，似小点之物 v. 加以小点;用点制成

　　on the dot 准时

　　A:Did you and Amanda really meet exactly five minutes to two in front of

　　the theater?

　　A:你和阿曼达是不是真地在剧院前面2点差5分见面的?

　　B:Yes, we were both on the dot.

　　B:是啊，我们两个都准时到达。

　　4.face v. 面对;面向;朝着

　　(be) faced with 面对，面临 (with a certain problem to handle; confront)

　　例句：For the earliest times people were faced with the problem of sending

　　messages over long distances.

　　从人类早期起，人们就面临着远距离传送信息这个问题。

　　5.hear v. 听见，听说

　　hear from 收到...的来信

　　A:Could you mail these letters for me please?

　　A:你能帮我把这些信寄了吗?

　　B:More letters? Your friends are going to be very happy to hear from

　　you.

　　B:还有信?你的朋友收到你的信会很高兴的。

　　hear from 收刭某人信件(receive a letter from)

　　例句：Why don't you have your credentials sent to me as soon as you can?

　　You'll probably hear from us in about a week.

　　如果可能，何不尽快把你的学历证书寄给我呢?你有可能在一周之内收到回信。

　　6.ice n. 冰，冰块 v. 在(糕点上)挂糖皮儿

　　ice cream 冰激淋

　　例句：Why don't we stop for some ice cream after the play?

　　演出之后，我们为什么不去吃点儿冰激淋呢?

　　7.information n. 资料，消息，情报

　　information desk 问讯处(对照front desk前台，hotel desk前台，circulation desk

　　借书处，reception desk 接待处一起记忆)

　　A:Can I borrow your calculus textbooks? I left mine in the classroom. And

　　it was gone when I went back.

　　A:我能不能借一下你的徽积分课本?我把我的书忘在教室里了。我回去的时候就不见了。

　　B:That happened to me once. I'd almost given up on finding it until I

　　checked it at the lost-and-found at the information desk downstairs in the

　　lobby.

　　B:我也有一次。直到我在楼下大厅问讯处的失物招领处询问之前，我都不准备找了。

　　keep the information to oneself 不跟别人说

　　例句：I expect you to keep this information to yourself.

　　我希望你这事不跟别人说。

　　8.need n. 需要，必要;必需品;欲望，希望 v. 需要

　　meet one's needs 满足某人的需要(to supply the things that a person needs)

　　例句：Privote schools in the United States range widely in size and quality,

　　and they offer all kinds of programmes to meet the needs of certain

　　students.

　　美国的私立学校规模和质量有很大差异。它们提供各种计划活动来满足某些学生的需要。

　　9.these pron. this的复数

　　one of those (fine) days 不久

　　例句：I return these books to you one of these days.

　　我很快就会把这些书还给你。

　　put these things away 将这些东西收拾起来

　　例句：Can you help me put these things away?

　　你能帮敖收拾一下这些东西吗7

　　A:Is there a bus I can get to the station?

　　A:有没有去车站的汽车?

　　B:There is. But you aren't rely on it. I'll give you a ride if you can wait

　　while I put these things away.

　　B:有。但你不能依赖它。如果你等我一会儿，我把这些东西收拾一下，我开车送你。
