　　1、复习

　　本课主要复习第60-69课的关键句型和语法，主要有：时间状语从句、将来完成时、过去完成进行时、虚拟语气、情态动词、间接引语、从句改为短语等。如：

　　The moment you leave this tent, you will get a big surprise.

　　By the time you read this, the Hubble's eagle eye will have sent us thousands of wonderful pictures.

　　The planes had been planting seed for nearly a month when it began to rain.

　　If the British had not feared invasion, it would have been completed.

　　You ought to have telephoned me about your lateness.

　　After having been instructed to drive out of town, I began to acquire confidence.

　　课文主要语言点

　　When you visit London, one of the first things you will see is Big Ben, the famous clock which can be heard all over the world on the B.B.C.. 1)注意when引导的时间状语从句采用了“主将从现”的用法，即从句中的谓语动词visit采用了一般现在时，而主句中的谓语动词see采用了一般将来时，但该谓语动词出现在定语从句中。 2)注意you will see是定语从句，用来修饰先行词one of the first things，省略了关系代词that(先行词中含有序数词，所以关系代词只能用that，不能用which)。 3)Big Ben，大本钟。也可以翻译为“大笨钟”。 4)the famous clock是Big Ben的同位语，补充说明其具体情况。 5)which引导的是限定性定语从句，修饰the famous clock。 6)all over the world，全世界、世界各地。 7)B.B.C.，英国广播公司，其完整形式为：the British Broadcasting Corporation。

　　If the Houses of Parliament had not been burned down in 1834, the great clock would never have been erected. 1)注意本句针对的是过去动作的虚拟，所以其if从句谓语动词要采用had done的用法，而其主句要采用would have done的用法。 2)the Houses of Parliament，英国国会大厦。parliament，议会、国会。 3)erect，竖立、建起。

　　Big Ben takes its name from Sir Benjamin Hall who was responsible for the making of the clock when the new Houses of Parliament were being built. 1)take one's name from sb.，以某人的名字命名。 2)be responsible for，对...负责。 3)making，制造、生产。

　　It is not only of immense size, but is extremely accurate as well. 1)注意“not only..., but...as well”引导的并列句。其中，but...as well也可以替换为but also...。 2)be of immense size，尺寸很大。其中，be of+名词，就等于be+形容词。immense，巨大的。 3)extremely，极度地、非常地。源自形容词extreme(极度的)。 4)accurate，精确的、准确的。注意其名词为accuracy(准确性)。

　　Officials from Greenwich Observatory have the clock checked twice a day. 1)注意official(政府行政官员)和officer(军队警察官员)的区别。 2)注意have...done的用法，这里的have用作使役动词，表示“使...，让...”。

　　On the B.B.C. you can hear the clock when it is actually striking because microphones are connected to the clock tower. 1)actually，实际上。源自形容词actual(实际的)。 2)strike，句中指的是“(钟)敲打”。 3)microphone，麦克风。该词由前缀mirco-(微小的)和phone构成。 4)be connected to，与...相连接。 5)tower，塔。注意与towel(毛巾)的区别。

　　Big Ben has rarely gone wrong. Once, however, it failed to give the correct time. 1)rarely，很少。相当于seldom。 2)go wrong，出错。 3)once，曾经、有一次。 4)fail to do，没有做成。 5)give the correct time，准确报时。

　　A painter who had been working on the tower hung a pot of paint on one of the hands and slowed it down. 1)who引导的是定语从句，修饰先行词a painter。 2)注意句中的work采用了过去完成进行时，强调的是这位油漆工一直在钟楼上工作。 3)注意hang的两种不同的过去式和过去分词的形式，形式不一样意思也不一样。hang, hanged, hanged，表示吊死;hang, hung, hung，表示悬挂。 4)a pot of，一罐、一壶。 5)hand，指钟表的指针。 6)slow...down，使...变慢。
